Wednesday Night Social Ride - 1201 N. Dodge Street to West Branch to Oasis and return
About this event
This ride was new in 2024. We start in a parking lot at 1201 N. Dodge St., Iowa City.
NOTE CAREFULLY: We do NOT meet in the parking lot of Hy-Vee at 1125 N. Dodge St. in Iowa City. Instead, we meet in a parking lot at 1201 N. Dodge St., which was the Hy-Vee until 2015. DO NOT look for us in the Hy-Vee parking lot—go north one parcel to the parking lot in back of the new Hy-Vee.
From the parking lot at 1201 N. Dodge St., we head north on the wide sidewalk along Dodge Street to Scott Boulevard and turn left at the light onto Scott Boulevard. Regroup at Rochester Avenue, then head east on sidewalk alongside Herbert Hoover Highway.
Note: After the sidewalk ends, for about a half mile, ride carefully, single file and to the right, on the Herbert Hoover Highway. It's not ideal, but it's better than it used to be, because a nice new paved shoulder begins after we cross I-80.
In West Branch, we make our way to the Hoover Nature Trail and head north. Regroup in Oasis, then head south on the paved Oasis Road and return to Iowa City on the Herbert Hoover Highway. Back in town, let's head west on Rochester to First Avenue for our return to Scott Boulevard. Riders' choice of a meal stop after the ride.
Ride Length: 24.5 miles, 1,200 feet of climb.
