Thank Goodness It's Summer--TGIS ride, 2022

TGIS is a 2-day loop ride starting August 27th at 8:00 AM at Krueger Auto, 5997 Wapsi Ave., Lone Tree, IA.  Parking is limited so please carpool if possible. We have overflow parking in another location, if needed. We will bike from Lone Tree to Wild Cat Den State Park (iowadnr.gov/Places-to-Go/State-Parks) and then to the Super 8 in Muscatine for a total of 53.6 miles.  If you choose not to go to the Wild Cat Den State Park, you can shorten the ride by 19.1 miles. Approximately 10-15 miles of our route will be on the Running River Bike and Pedestrian Trail (muscatineiowa.gov) which follows the Mississippi River to Riverside Park in downtown Muscatine. Spend some time

relaxing and viewing the river.  You can also visit the National Pearl Button Museum in this downtown area. If you choose not to go to Wild Cat Den, you shorten the ride by 19 miles.  On Sunday, August 28th we leave at 8:30 AM and bike 34.5 miles back to Lone Tree.  This ride is on scenic low traffic Iowa roads. It is a fully supported ride delivering your luggage to the motel and includes planned SAG stops providing water and snacks.

The ride cost is $40.00 for members and $50.00 for non-members which includes SAG stops and our Saturday afternoon Happy Hour, to be held in the motel breakfast room. The Super 8 is our overnight motel, 2900 North Highway 61, Muscatine, IA.  The room charge is $79.98 including tax for a double room.  Call 563-263-9100 and mention Bicyclists of Iowa City to receive the special rate.  Your Saturday and Sunday lunches and Saturday evening meal will be on your own. Downtown Muscatine has several restaurants for your lunch right off the Running River Trail and there are restaurants close to the motel for Saturday's dinner. Sunday's lunch will be in West Liberty at El Patio.

Registration begins on Monday, July 4th at 6:00 AM.  The deadline for registration is Wednesday, August 24th at 11:00 PM.  If you need to cancel your registration that deadline is Aug. 24th.  Register at bicyclistsofiowacity.org.  Go to ride/event calendar, choose TGIS event, and click on the VIEW button.  ON the far left click on REGISTER HERE button. If you are not a BIC member you can easily register and be a member for $25.00 by using the membership tab.  Or email one of the 3 people listed below or another member to register for you. Only members can register online.

Additional information will be emailed a week before the ride start to those who have registered.  We will not be handing out maps so you must print and bring your own. The PDF we put in this description is the final set of maps. Print all 3 maps and cue sheets and bring with you on your bike each day. Download maps and cue sheets to your phone if you have a RWGPS account. You must be a BIC member and have signed up for the free account with RWGPS/BIC or have your personal account to use RWGPS and get turn-by-turn verbal notifications thru your smartphone.

The love and adventure of riding new roads make this BIC tradition an event you must take part in.  Hope to see you on this year's ride.
